So what is The HERstory Project anyway?
If you cannot be bothered to go read our about page, here’s the headlines:

When will my article be published?
All website articles are published at the start of the month, usually on the first Saturday. Your work will be published in the next round after your have submitted your full, revised draft. The full editorial process from submission to publication can take between 1 -2 months.
If you are have written for the journal, your work will be published when we go to print, this is subject to funding and an ever changing timetable so please enquire with the journal team directly for more clarity.
Why is it “The HERstory Project” when you don’t only publish women’s history?
2 reasons, firstly, Abby picked a name and now she’s stuck with it.
Secondly, (and more seriously), The HERstory Project began out of frustration that was not a serious, legitimate place for early career academics of women’s and queer hsitories to create a community, research and publish. The HER – in herstory is symbolic of a much wider problem, that history is so often male dominated. The HERstory Project is a woman-owned company, with a primarily women-heavy-team, our ethos is to provide spaces and platforms for all early career, emerging and young historians, and the histories they care about, it just so happens that a lot of these also tend to be women!
Can I write about anything?
Pretty much.
Are there any rules I should follow at all?
Are there any rules about what I can or can’t say politically?
This is a tricky one, as a Community Interest Company, The HERstory Project cannot give political support to any side of the debate in the UK, however, as a women-owned, queer-owned and disability-owned company, we are also an inherently liberal organisation and we regularly fall into political activism simply by sharing the histories, research and careers of the people who work with us. So, don’t start inciting revolution in your work, but do invite us to the march 😉
Can you pay me for my work?
Unfortunately not. We would absolutely love to, truly, however we simply don’t have the (any) funds. We hope that one day we will be able to secure funding to renumerate people for their work but at the moment this is not on our radar.
What are your company goals?
Now there’s a big question.
When Abby founded THP in 2023 she had a pipe dream that it would be a bit more than a blog, now, we’re already so much more.
One day we would love to be able to provide financial support for postgrad and doctoral students studying women’s and queer histories in the UK. But we have a long way to go before we get there! Firstly, we are focusing on the third issue of the Journal, wrapping up series 2 of the Podcast and starting research on series 3, and applying for funding rounds, grants and all the opportunities you can imagine.
We’d also love a herstoryproj cat one day.
