About
Jillian is currently finishing up her master’s degree in gender, media, and culture from the London School of Economics, writing her master’s dissertation on the queer politics of standup comedy. She also has an undergraduate degree in history and international relations from the University of St. Andrews where she completed a dissertation on queer resistance in alternative music and a final project on the political relationship between Mary Queen of Scots and Elizabeth I. Her research interests include early modern women and gender with special attention to women in politics and culture. She has a particular love of micro-histories and hope’s to one day be able to write with the skill of Natalie Zemon Davis and Saidiya Hartman. She also has an interest in the histories of queer and feminist movements and culture, especially the role of queer women in the development of music. Jillian plans on one day getting her PhD (if the gods of academia are so willing) so she can become a professor and share the joy of being a feminist killjoy with the next generation while continuing her research into queer cultural politics.
As of Summer 2024 Jillian is the co-editor-in-chief of The HERstory Project Journal.
