#4 Drunk! Wars of the Roses
Tudors, Plantagenet, Drunk History, Wars of the Roses
Intro:
Hello and welcome back to the HERstory Project podcast for this special edition of drunk history with Abby and Jillian. You may be wondering, were you not drunk in the other episodes? We were, but this time we’re making it explicit. That should tell you something, so be prepared.
Let’s be honest, why is the episode a ‘drunk’ episode? In the past two months we’ve been having mental crises and thought it was only fit to return to a comfort subject - the wars of the roses.
Plantagenet King Henry VI was weak, pathetic, and could be called Margaret of Anjou’s bitch. After losing the 100 years War which England had largely been winning for the last 110 years, Henry VI was promptly booted from the throne. To which his response was to go non-verbal - relatable king.
This is where reliable frat boy Edward IV steps in and said, thank you very much. And it was all over, except it wasn’t because Edward had incidentally opened up a can of succession worms and now everyone wanted to be king. So here we are.
